Why it's called From The Foxhole

by Chris Errington
Nov 03, 2025

When things get tough and you think you're all alone...and that the world is closing in...that's when you need someone in your foxhole...right there with you, letting you know that we got this...

A foxhole isn’t about hiding...it’s about holding your position when the pressure hits...it’s about getting steady before you move again...it's about knowing that the guy in the foxhole with you, has your back...

That’s what this blog is...reflections from the front lines of business, family, and faith.

Real stories from my business and personal life…about what it takes to lead when life hits back...and hopefully they come at the right time for you and whatever life brings to you...

In the Trenches

Most people write about success from the summit...but I’ve never been interested in that view.

The lessons that shaped me didn’t come from a stage or a spotlight...they came from the field…from years of selling, failing, leading, and rebuilding...

From early mornings in the gym and late nights by the pond...from conversations with my wife when everything felt heavy…and from watching my kids chase their dreams with courage I wish I’d had at their age...from my climbs up the mountain, only to fall down the other side...and then got back up again...

That’s what I bring to the foxhole.

It’s where real leadership is forged...not in theory…but in reality.

The Meaning Behind the Name

A foxhole is a fighting position...a place soldiers dig when the battle gets close...it’s where they anchor themselves, adapt, and prepare for what’s next.

That image always stuck with me...in life, business, and family…when you're in the foxhole, the fight is real.

Pressure, doubt, temptation, and fear...they all come for you.

The foxhole is where you regroup...where you protect what matters and recommit to the mission.

When I write ā€œFrom the Foxhole,ā€ it’s not about war...it’s about the discipline to stay grounded when the world keeps moving fast...it’s about courage in the moments that scare you.

The Promise

Here’s what you can expect in this space...no sugarcoating...no recycled motivational fluff.

Just stories, sales lessons, and unfiltered truths from the field...thoughts on life, leadership, losing your way, and finding it again...straight talk...a few laughs...maybe even a pond metaphor or two.

From the foxhole…everything looks different...

You see the fight for what it really is...and yourself for who you really are.

That’s what this blog is about...it’s where real people reset, reflect, and rebuild.

Welcome to "From the Foxhole".

ā˜• What’s Filling My Cup

šŸŽ§ Song: ā€œForever After Allā€ – Luke Combs. A reminder of what lasts.
šŸ“– Relentless by Tim Grover. Championship mindset
šŸ’Ŗ In the gym: I turn 50 in less than 4 months...aiming to be in the best shape of my life...
🌲 At the pond: leaves are almost done falling in the yard and the pond is getting ready to hibernate...LOTS of juncos (birds that arrive in the fall)

šŸ’ Truth / Question / ActionTruth:

The foxhole isn’t a place…it’s a mindset.

Question: Where do you go to get clear when the noise gets loud?

Action: Take 10 minutes this week to sit still, breathe, and ask yourself what fight is really worth your energy.

Your Superpower might be simpler than you think...
There’s a pattern I’ve started to notice in my career… Superpowers are a thing. I’m usually not the smartest person in the room...like ever. I’m not the technical expert (those who know me can stop laughing any time now)... And I’m rarely the one building the product... But I do seem to have one consistent advantage. I build like and trust with people quickly. Some people call it networking… I ...
Why Trust Matters More Than Titles
One quiet goal I have these days. I want to be someone people trust without hesitation. Not because of a title...not because of a position... Just because of who I am. That might sound simple, but the older I get the more I realize how rare that kind of trust actually is. Most of the world is built around titles. Vice President...founder...CEO...Executive... Those things can create authority......
Maybe We've Been Asking the Wrong Question?
How on earth is that possible? And it’s not like I’ve never been asked. That question has been coming at me for decades now…usually from people who had their lives figured out far earlier than I did. ā€œWhat do you want to be when you grow up?ā€ When I was a kid, I had the same big dreams most kids have. Mine just happened to involve becoming a professional basketball player. Never mind the fact t...
